Why This Practice Exists
I've spent years taking over projects from other vendors. Stabilizing codebases, untangling architectures, and delivering what was originally promised. When AI projects started failing the same ways web projects have always failed (bad handoffs, no production testing, scope that outran capability), it was familiar territory.
The difference is that AI adds new failure modes. Pipelines that hallucinate. Models that drift. Integrations that work in a notebook but not in a production environment. Fixing these requires understanding both the AI layer and the systems underneath it.
